Established in 1969, Torbay Karate Club in Paignton is one of the oldest Shotokan Karate clubs in the UK. Its founder and Chairman Bob Davies has run the club for over 40 years and, with ChiefInstructor Ray Alsop and other resident & visiting black belts, it offers a wealth of experience and tuition from some of the highest graded instructors in the south of England.
We are the Exeter City Club of Seishin Mizu Ryu Tatakai Jutsu, which is a part of Elite Martial Arts. Our club is for adults aged over 16yrs. Our system is holistic meaning that it is covers allranges and weapon classes therefore you will find many other techniques used in other martial arts in our class. For example, in one class you may learn how to defend against a punch (boxing), handle someone who grabbed you (aikido or judo) and how to avoid an attack with a weapon (kali).

As with many martial arts, a belt system is used in KUGB Shotokan Karate to show the progress and proficiency of students. Belts are earned through their proven dedication to training in combinationwith an examination (grading). Students progress from Novice through the coloured Kyu grades (9th to 1st Kyu) to Black Belt (1st Dan). Learning Karate is unlimited and 1st Dan Black Belt is only the first in a series of Black Belt grades.
The friendly environment of the aikido dojo is a fantastic place to meet new people and make friends whilst learning this great martial art. As part of Tenchi Ryu you will have access to tuition fromJapanese instructors and courses throughout the UK. Our traditional Dojo (training hall) has excellent facilities including a permanently matted training area and separate male and female changing rooms. GRADINGS may be taken every three months or so if you practice on a regular basis.

Aikido is a combat effective martial art derived from the ancient Samurai fighting techniques. Unarmed Samurai developed techniques to protect themselves on the battlefield if they happened to losetheir sword. The fighting art of Samurai Aikijustsu was born. Ueshiba Sensei then developed this art further into the modern art we know as Aikido. Thanks to its Traditional roots, weapons are also a very important part of the training. We use the sword, staff and knife.

TAGB classes have been running in Torbay since the early 1980's. Classes are instructed by Andy Saunders, 2nd Dan who has over 10 years Tae Kwon-Do experience.
