A student of the martial art of Jiu Jitsu looks to use an assailant's attack against them through application of movement, redirection and balance. Using a combination of throwing, locking, restraining and striking techniques, students can deal with a myriad of potential attacks including release from grabs, countering strikes & restraints, multiple assailants and a variety of melee weapons. In fact employing Jiu Jitsu allows a student to tailor their response to an attack from simply escaping, to restraining and disarming or even to damaging or disabling an attacker.
