About the Business

The Japanese martial art of Aikido is a comprehensive system of throwing, joint-locking, striking and pinning techniques, coupled with training in traditional Japanese weapons such as the sword, staff and knife.

Founded by Morihei Ueshiba early in the twentieth century following his own extensive study of various armed and unarmed martial systems.

Chester Aikido Club was established in 1979. Our club has grown and matured and throughout has provided excellent tuition in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Classes are held regularly throughout the week and are open to students of all levels as well as absolute beginners. We have a dedicated class for children held once a week.

All instructors are fully qualified coaches and insured.

We are members of the British Aikido Federation which is one of only a small number of organisations in the country recognised by the International Aikido Federation in Japan.

Aikido Classes for all Abilities

Chester Aikido Club (Ryusuikan Dojo) was founded in 1979, initially on a temporary basis to host a beginners course in the Chester area. The original intention was that any new students would then transfer, after completion of the course, to the Liverpool Aikido club, which at the time was the main club in the NorthWest area. That was more than forty years ago and the Club is still going strong with many of the original students still practising regularly.
