About the Business
Is it Simple, is it Direct, is it Effective - Then its Wing Chun.

The simple concepts and principles of Wing Chun are based on good, effective body mechanics and can be applied by a person of any age, size or gender, to help them offset the advantages of a younger, larger, fitter or stronger aggressor.

We do not require the student to use unnatural techniques or excessive body mechanics in order to fit into the style.

We tailor the style to fit the student and use the style as the vehicle for students to improve in the following core areas:

  • Improved Mental and Physical Co-ordination and Awareness.
  • Increased Level of Personal Confidence.
  • Ability to relax, both mentally and physically.
  • Improved Body Mechanics to operate the body Efficiently and Effectively.
  • Improved Core strength, general fitness and structural conditioning.

This approach achieves results in both martial arts training and additional benefits which extend into other areas of life.

Training in Wing Chun is very individual, we do not produce robots or use a one-size-fits-all methodology.

The style molds to the student as opposed to the student molding to the style.

We provide an ego-free, friendly environment that allows you to relax both physically and mentally to maximize your learning potential.

A very welcoming ego-free club with first-class instruction for a very practical martial art. Will suit male or female practitioners any age or fitness level as the art does not use muscle strength and is tailored to the individual, would highly recommend.

Fantastic Wing Chun instruction from instructors with a real depth of understanding in this amazing martial art. A very friendly club with a relaxed atmosphere where everyone seems happy to help you learn. Classes also never lose sight of the real-world applications of Wing Chun. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Discovered Wing Chun in my 50’s; memory and body not quite what they used to be but still find it incredibly rewarding. The club makes you feel very welcome, no ego’s and many members with the patience of saints! Never too late to learn; recommend giving it a go!!

Have trained at Somerset Wing Chun for many years and have never regretted doing so. Training in a positive environment has helped me to improve myself in many ways with the added benefit of making friends along the way. The best thing is I am still learning!

My son originally started to learn some self defence after a nasty incident with other boys. He loves going and the whole group are amazing to him, incorporating some of his physiotherapy exercises into the session (right side hemiplegia due to brain tumour). An excellent, friendly and accommodating group of people.

I came to Bill's class from a background in Tang Soo Do and then Shaolin with a few bits of other styles chucked in. I needed something direct and efficient to suit my declining health. I spoke with Bill before coming along and had my first lesson free to see if it was for me. I bought my daughter with me and we've been coming for 8 years or so. Bill is very adept at assessing and playing to your strengths he also bought my daughter out of her very introverted shell. The classes are paced well and there are no egos just friendly training to suit your ability. The style is fast and efficient and Bill is very knowledgeable, easy-going and good humoured. If you want a style that works and accommodates all ages, sizes and abilities try it out.

I have been training with Somerset wing Chun for a few years now. As a female in a martial arts group, I've never felt as welcome anywhere else as I do from Bill and his students. I'm certainly not discounted the way I have been in other clubs. It's fun and very effective would recommend for any ability or age.

I have been training at this club for several years now and have always found it to have a very friendly atmosphere and everyone more than willing to help. You will get excellent instruction from the instructors who are very friendly and patient. Wing Chun is a nonsense martial art that is very effective and I would recommend Somerset Wing Chun to anyone thinking of trying a martial art.

A great atmosphere where everyone helps everyone. I love being able to partake in the same class with my kids, learning practical defence techniques without the need for strength or size. Excellent value for money!

Wing Chun is a really practical martial art which is accessible to everyone and has a clear application to self-defense. As a fairly new member, I found the club to be very welcoming. There are no egos, and a good mix of novices, seniors, male and female members. The instruction is excellent from Bill, Steve and Dan, who between them offer different styles of teaching. There is always something new to learn.
