Becoming a martial arts expert is not an easy task. It takes years of hard work and practice to become proficient in any martial art. However, there are a few things you can do to make the process a little easier and shorten the time it takes to become a grandmaster.


The benefits of flexibility are many. Being able to stretch helps you learn more advanced techniques in martial arts because you can achieve the required level of flexibility needed to do so. Additionally, having good flexibility allows you to move more easily and fluidly, which enhances your performance in sparring and competition.

Stretch your muscles. This is especially important before you start any kind of physical activity, but it’s also a good idea to stretch after you finish. You can do some basic stretches before you work out, and then again afterwards. You don’t have to do a lot of stretching – even five or ten minutes is good. Just be sure to focus on all the major muscle groups, including your back, chest, legs, and arms.

Learn from your master

As a beginner, you will discover that one of the greatest ways to learn is to observe your master perform a method and then practice it with a partner. If they don't ask for volunteers before executing each technique, volunteer before the class starts.

Your training doesn’t begin and end when you enter and leave the doors. My Kung Fu master always told us that “practice is good, but perfect practice makes perfect”. When you train at home make sure you are performing each technique properly, as if you were in class, bad habits form fast and are extremely hard to be undone. Purchasing a large mirror is a great investment so you can analyse yourself at home. Also watching videos of other people performing techniques will help you to see how different techniques should look when you’re not at class.

At home, it is important that you practice your techniques perfectly. This means ensuring that you are doing each move correctly as if you were in class. This can be difficult to do on your own, but by purchasing a mirror and watching videos of other people practising, you can get a better idea of what a perfect technique looks like.

It is also beneficial to review the techniques you have learned in class. This helps to ensure that you are retaining the information and can perform the moves correctly when you are not in class. Reviewing techniques can be done by practising at home, watching videos, or attending extra classes outside of your regular training.
