Tae Kwon-Do is a Korean phrase, from the three parts "Tae" meaning Foot (as in to destroy with), "Kwon" means Fist and "Do" means Way (in the sense of 'path you should follow'). On Sunday 11th May, over 50 juniors and adults took part in the first annual KSKC Berkshire interclub competition aged from just 4 years old up to adult members. The event has traditionally beenhosted in Kent, but made a successful move to Wokingham this May. The competition which featured displays, Kata and Kumite events, represented Silwood Park Karate's inclusive approach to instruction with categories for all ages and a new nurture Kata category for children and adults with special needs.

After a few years of training in Shotokan Monty decided to try Shukokai Karate and spent ten years learning and competing in this style. Other commitments meant Monty had to give up Shukokai Karateand it was at this point that he first got involved in kickboxing. Monty discovered that kickboxing suited him well and competed in his first competition in York at the Oriental Sport Association where he fought three individuals and won.
